WordPress vs Wix in 2025: which is right for your business?

Choosing a platform is the first real decision in any web project — and the one people most often get wrong. Both WordPress and Wix can produce a beautiful, fast site. The right choice depends on where your business is headed, not on which is “better.”

The short version

  • Choose Wix if you want a beautiful site quickly, plan to make your own edits, and don’t need deep custom functionality.
  • Choose WordPress if you need room to grow — custom features, serious e-commerce, integrations, or full control of your code and data.

Cost over time

Wix bundles hosting, security, and updates into one monthly fee — predictable and simple. WordPress is open-source (free) but you pay for hosting, and ongoing maintenance is on you (or your agency). Over a few years, a simple Wix site is often cheaper to run; a complex WordPress site is cheaper to own and scale.

Flexibility

This is the real divide. WordPress can be anything — a membership site, a marketplace, a custom booking system, a headless front end. Wix is excellent within its lane and improving fast with Wix Studio, but you work inside its ecosystem.

SEO

Both can rank well. WordPress gives you finer control (schema, redirects, technical tweaks) which matters for competitive niches. Wix covers the fundamentals well for most small businesses.

Maintenance

Wix updates itself. WordPress needs regular core, theme, and plugin updates plus backups and security monitoring — which is exactly why care plans exist.

Our take

There’s no universal winner. We build on both, and in a free consultation we’ll recommend the one that fits your goals — not the one that’s easiest for us. Tell us about your project and we’ll point you the right way.
